I've been working on this new series for the past few months. The impetus came from the drawings, some of which have been posted here. Then I experimented with painting these mimetic figures on textured wood; the change of scale is a fruitful exercise at this stage of creation. The fractures, fissures, and collapses that form landscapes and mineral bodies also occur in animals and humans. Robert Smithson wrote about the "sedimentation of the mind" and this cordial relationship with matter. What he saw inside is possible to see outside, as evidence of the atomic elements that constitute all these bodies and how time and natural phenomena transform reliefs and bodies so distinct, yet permeable to the same forces.
